UPCOMING EVENTS

Our team will be hosting in-person and virtual focus groups throughout the region.

Do you care about climate change? Have perspective or ideas on how to address greenhouse gas emissions?

We want you to join us for an upcoming community ideation session.

In June, our team will be hosting in-person and virtual community ideation sessions throughout the region. Each session is focused on one specific area of the climate action plan. These interactive sessions will give participants a chance to discuss one specific sector of the economy that can drive changes to help reduce local greenhouse gas emissions.

Because of space limitations, we encourage interested participants to attend just one session focused on an area where they have particular interest or expertise.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Buildings

Friday, June 7 | 9 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss the building sector of the climate action plan. In our region, buildings include a broad range of structures - residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Each has different demands for materials, energy sourcing, and operations. An emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainable building materials, advanced energy management systems, and renewable energy sources in buildings can significantly reduce overall energy consumption.

Participants will hear an update on possible areas of focus and share ideas and perspectives on greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to buildings.

Community Ideation Session – Transportation

Friday, June 7 | 2-3:30 p.m.

Join PlanRVA for a community meeting to discuss the transportation sector of the climate action plan. When we talk about transportation, we are focused on the movement of people and goods in a variety of ways: cars, buses, trucks, freight and passenger trains, boats, bikes, and on foot. Reducing emissions in this sector might involve reducing the number of trips made by vehicle and the adoption of zero emission or clean fuel vehicles.

Participants will hear an update on possible areas of focus and share ideas and perspectives on greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to transportation.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Energy

Monday, June 10 | 9 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss the energy sector of the climate action plan. The energy sector in our region includes the production of energy, the electrical grid, and the use of solar and other renewable energy sources. Transitioning to renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency are key strategies to reduce emissions in this sector.

The session will be an opportunity for participants to share ideas and brainstorm greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to energy.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Agriculture and Working Lands

Monday, June 10 | 11 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss agriculture and working lands in the climate action plan. Agriculture and working lands in the greater Richmond region encompass a diverse range of land use in urban, suburban, and rural areas: traditional farming, urban agriculture, tree canopies, parks and community gardens, forestry, land conservation, and habitat protection. Effective management of land use can enhance carbon sequestration, helping to mitigate climate change.

Participants will hear an update on possible areas of focus and share ideas and perspectives on greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to agriculture and working lands.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Waste

Monday, June 10 | 11 a.m

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss the waste sector of the climate action plan. This sector includes household waste, municipal solid waste, recycling, composting, industrial and hazardous waste, and wastewater. All waste sources emit greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants from decomposition. Reducing emissions here may involve increasing recycling, composting, and improving the efficiency of waste treatment processes.

Participants will hear an update on possible areas of focus and share ideas and perspectives on greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to waste.

Community Ideation Session – Energy

Tuesday, June 11 | 9:30-11 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a community meeting to discuss the energy sector of the climate action plan.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Transportation

Wednesday, June 12 | 9 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss the transportation sector of the climate action plan.

Virtual: Community Ideation Session – Industry

Wednesday, June 12 | 11 a.m.

Join PlanRVA for a virtual community meeting to discuss the industry sector of the climate action plan. The operations of businesses, factories, and other industrial facilities in our region contribute to greenhouse gas emissions through the combustion of fossil fuels and various manufacturing processes. Reducing emissions in this sector may involve increasing energy efficiency, adopting cleaner technologies, and transitioning to low-carbon fuels.

Participants will hear an update on possible areas of focus and share ideas and perspectives on greenhouse gas reduction strategies related to industry.
